AISI 1095 High Carbon Round Steel is a high carbon steel with a chemical composition of about 0.4% silicon and 1.2% manganese, as well as trace elements such as aluminum, molybdenum, nickel and copper. This alloy is known for its high strength and excellent hardness, but it also has a certain brittleness.
Due to its hardness and sharpness, AISI 1095 High Carbon Steel is ideal for tools that require a sharp cutting edge, such as forage or grain cutting tools. It also performs well in applications such as springs and highly stressed parts. This steel meets the needs of scenarios with extremely high requirements for high strength, wear resistance and cutting performance.
Whether it is used for industrial cutting tools or spring components, AISI 1095 High Carbon Round Steel provides reliable performance and a high-quality use experience.
Carbon content reaches 1.03%, containing small amounts of chromium, molybdenum and vanadium elements
After heat treatment, the hardness can reach HRc58-60.

AISI 1095 steel is known for its exceptional hardness. Hardness can be further increased through heat treatment and cold working, with typical hardness values as follows:
Brinell Hardness (HB): 197
Knoop hardness (HK): 219
Rockwell Hardness (HRB): 92
Rockwell Hardness (HRC): 13
Vickers Hardness (HV): 207
These hardness values make 1095 steel an extremely hard material, ideal for applications requiring high strength and wear resistance.
1095 carbon steel has 45% machinability and is suitable for conventional forming techniques. Its processing and welding characteristics are as follows:
Welding: All welding techniques can be used but require preheating at 500-600°F (260-315°C) and post heat treatment at 1200-1450°F (650-790°C).
Heat treatment:
Hardening: Oil quenched and tempered after heating to 1650°F (900°C).
Forging: Heat to 1750-2150°F (950-1175°C).
Annealing: Heat to 1650°F (900°C).
Thermal processing: Temperature range 200-900°F (93-482°C).
Provides 1095 spring steel bright bar in cold drawn, spheroidized annealed and other conditions with diameters of 19-32mm (0.75-1.25 in).
The AISI/SAE numbering system effectively identifies steel grades:
The first two digits indicate the type of steel and elemental concentration.
The last two digits indicate the concentration of carbon, for example 1095 means approximately 0.95% carbon content.
Other identification methods include:
spark test
X-ray diffraction
optical emission spectroscopy
X-ray fluorescence analysis
Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)
Due to its high wear resistance and extreme hardness, AISI 1095 steel rods are widely used in highly stressed and wear-resistant components such as:
Flat springs: highly stressed components such as rake teeth and plow beams.
Cutting Tools: Especially suitable for forage or grain cutting tools.
Its excellent workability and hardness make it an indispensable material of choice for industrial and agricultural applications.
